Die Punkies

His guitar-playing son Ben inspired Ully Arndt to create the idea for an audio drama series about a young band. Since 2016, the successful series has been produced by the label Europa. The five friends, sometimes joined by well-known real-life musicians like Johannes Oerding, WellBad, or Antje Schomaker, experience the wildest adventures around music and growing up. Ully Arndt provides not only the stories but also all the artwork.

Ully Arndt: „With The Punkies, I once again had the opportunity to try something new: The Punkies stories follow the structure of modern coming-of-age series, with sharp cuts, flashbacks, and surprising plot twists, rather than the typical, overly explanatory audio drama format. Luckily, my idea worked; the storytelling style and themes have significantly broadened the target audience for the audio drama.

I draw inspiration for the stories from my children’s experiences as well as my own. This resonates well with the listeners and makes the series believable. As with my other ‚comic kids,‘ I take the characters very seriously. After all, comic characters are people too!„
